Principles: Transformation and Change

The following are principles about transformation and change:

  • All plans include both delivery of current capabilities and the identification and realisation of new capabilities
  • Change requires an investment in time, money to deliver value or benefits
  • Change must be a conscious choice among alternatives.
  • Change requires a good understanding of:
    • the current state (what the situation is today)
    • the future state (what is the situation at the end of the change)
    • the capability for change (are the means available for change)
    • the readiness for change (is it the right time for change)
    • the possible options to take (what are the approaches that can be taken).
  • Leadership is necessary to engage with the people about the vision and approach to achieve the vision.
  • Change uses a number of management capabilities that must be effective.
